HOW SENDING LOVE BEGAN
The idea of designing greeting cards haunted my daydreams for a very long time. Raising a family and owning a portrait business kept that daydream on the back burner. Then in February 2019, we all found ourselves facing a worldwide pandemic and the the word "lockdown" became our reality. I decided this would be the time. More than ever, I felt people needed to connect in meaningful ways and couldn't get out to purchase cards , so .... Using my extensive collection of photography and lifelong obsession with inspiring quotes, my daydream became a reality!
This photography journey began 40 years ago. It's taken me from darkroom printing to photojournalism to photographing concerts & rock stars to fashion & commercial photography, all the way to photographing video & movie stills in Los Angeles. Many trips around the sun later, I found my happy place and fell in love with photographing the unedited awe and wonder of children - who knew?
Rooted in black & white film, I taught myself to hand color fiber based prints producing a body of work celebrating the heart & soul of childhood. These images have been featured on greeting cards with Leanin' Tree Publishing for 15 years in shops around the world. Now they are a part of my own cardline. I'm proud of this work and put my whole heart into making them. That's why these whimsical images were my first choice to debut in the Sending Love Greeting Card Collection.
Inspired by nature, ordinary moments and life's adventures, I'm adding more designs from my library to this collection every day and it's been growing and unfolding as the seasons pass.
Thank you for coming along on this journey with me and my family. Our intention is to provide simply stated sentiments in a card that will save you time, help you connect with your favorite people, and celebrate your life.
You'll make them smile.
Sending love can make someone's day!
With every card you purchase you're part of the solution by supporting the well being and safety of children all around the world. We give back by donating a portion of our profits to: www.jesselewischooselove.org, a nonprofit organization with a mission to create safer schools through a no-cost, lifespan social and emotional learning platform.
Georgia O'Keefe said:
"I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way ... things I had no words for."
This quote struck a chord in me and I realized this is precisely how I communicate what's in my heart: through the lens of a camera and with my own intuitive painting.
Inspired over the years by Georgia O'Keefe, Robert Mapplethorpe and so many others, it's inside the universe of flowers and nature where I discovered a kaleidoscope of visual surprises and abstract shapes. I became obsessed! Playing with shadow and light, flowers transform ... becoming abstract and subtle one moment ... to exaggerated and dramatic in the next. While becoming specific about macro lens photography, abstraction, focusing on one aspect and sometimes using blur or intentional camera movement, combined with texture overlays, my hope is that these images will take you on a visual ride ... to a place where all things are possible.
A Visual Place to Breathe
